Every district's budget is different, and eligibility depends on your plans and your state. Confirm allowable uses with your federal programs director or business office. We are not a grants advisor; this page is a starting point.
Federal sources districts commonly use
- ESSA Title IV, Part A (Student Support and Academic Enrichment): supports a well-rounded education, including computer science and STEM, and the effective use of technology.
- ESSA Title II, Part A: supports professional development for teachers, such as computer science training.
- Perkins V: supports career and technical education, including career exploration from the middle grades, which can include engineering, robotics and computer science pathways.
- Title I schoolwide programs: may support programs that improve outcomes for all students in eligible schools.
State and local sources
State-specific grants for New York, Massachusetts and Florida CS programs.
Timing
Most districts plan budgets in spring for a fiscal year starting July 1. Starting the conversation between February and June leaves time to align funding, procurement and teacher training before the school year.
